Experiencing Time Through Chinese Film (Virtual Sample Class)

As we enter the post-pandemic, it is commonly expressed that our “sense of time has changed”: sped up, slowed down, rendered static, jumbled, and disrupted. Cinema, one of the modern world’s most prized and popular artistic mediums, has been experimenting on, playing with, and deconstructing what conventional understandings of “time” has been for more than 130 years. Led by Professor Darwin Tsen, this lecture introduces how movies from the Chinese-speaking world engage our senses of time.
