A&S | Maxwell Virtual Sample Class - Studying Religion in Unexpected Ways

Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 6:00 PM until 7:00 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

What to college-level discussions about religion look like? Some of the answers to this question will probably surprise you. (Religion, it turns out, isn’t always what you think it is.)

In this sample class, you'll meet Professor William Robert. In Professor Robert’s classes, students study religion by studying plays. Why? Because plays can teach us dramatic lessons about how religion works, what religion does, and why religion matters. Plays also perform these lessons in culturally relevant ways.

Join Professor Robert for a mini-lecture and discussion about a scene from a play about the power of media in our lives. This play provide an intriguing, unexpected look at religion. You may find that we’re talking about religion when we’re talking about all kinds of other things.
