AI Doesn’t Happen Without Us: How Do We Stop Being Its Subjects and Become Stakeholders? (Virtual Sample Class)

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 7:00 PM until 8:00 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

We know AI makes mistakes and reproduces bias. We know it’s environmentally costly and built on labor most of us never see. So what do we do with that knowledge? AI runs on our data and our work, which means we’re not just its subjects - we’re stakeholders, whether or not anyone invited us to the table. In this session with the School of Information Studies (iSchool), we’ll look at the systems that make AI possible and at the people already claiming a stake in them, including workers, artists, and local communities.

As future information professionals, you’ll be among the people helping build and govern these systems. That’s real power, so let’s figure out together what to do with it.
